I’m pleased to announce that one of my photographs will be exhibited by Punch Projects in Ellensburg, Washington in April and five of my photos were recently published in The Arrow: A Journal of Wakeful Society, Culture & Politics.

For the past two years I have not had time to devote to sculpture due to elder care responsibilities, but I have been able to take photographs occasionally. Photos of the objects and landscapes of nearby nature capture my fascination with space and volume, the elements of sculpture.

My photo “Shipping” (pictured above) has been selected for a Punch Projects exhibit,“Barnstorm at Bluestone Garage, . . . a free two-day art event that transforms the rustic Model KE building in Ellensburg’s SODO district into an exhibition that will highlight works through use of projections and digital prints gathered from an international call to artists.” Punch Projects seeks to bridge rural and urban connections. 
Exhibit dates: April 7 & 8, 2017 (two days)
Opening Reception: April 7, 2017, 7pm to close
Additional Hours: Saturday, April 8, 2017, 12-4pm
Location: Backside of Bluestone Building, 2nd Ave & Pine Street, Ellensburg, Washington

I took the “Shipping” photo while facing north from the Point Ruston Waterwalk. Occasionally there are big container ships in this area of Commencement Bay that are anchored relatively close to the shore. The mass of containers made me wonder about the origin and destination of the goods contained within–where were the items manufactured or grown and where were they destined to be used and consumed? These containers are microcosms of the interactions between rural and urban places, national and international trade.

My photos published in the Teaching Contemplative Environments issue of The Arrow supplement Amy Ryken’s article, “Teaching and Learning in Nearby Nature.” The nearby nature sites I documented are: Robert Morris Earthwork, Mill Creek Canyon Earthworks, Thea’s Park, Dickman Mill Park, and the Point Ruston Waterwalk. These are earthworks, parks, and sites located in Kent, WA and Tacoma, WA.
