Website Updated

In April 2018 I updated my art website, ryksenn.com. Now my site features photography along with the sculptures and installations I have created. You’ll find a page with my formal photos and a page that displays my Instagram feed, which I update often.

About my Photos
I started taking photos of botanical and natural forms that inspired me to create sculptures. Now I take photos when I am out doing errands, walking or traveling. Living on the Puget Sound I am surrounded by reminders of present day ship and train freight transport and the legacy of paper and pulp mills. I am interested in how these industrial enterprises interact with the region’s natural beauty.

Updating my Website
Updating a website is a chance to tidy up and reorganize. While I wanted to have a new overall look for my website, I also wanted to change navigation menus and add a page. In adding a page about my photography I needed to amend my artist statement. One change lead to many changes. My new theme allowed me to do some new layouts but didn’t allow for some of the layouts I used to use. Updating was an iterative process which gave me the opportunity to re-think how I represent my work.

Details About my Updated Website
I use the WordPress platform. For the update, I switched my site over to the pro version of the “Make” theme by The Foundry from the free version of Photocrati’s Obsura theme.

I employ many plugins for the site, including: Add Posts to Pages, BackupBuddy, Bad Behavior, Broken Link Checker, Category – RSS widget menu, Contact Form 7, Custom Link Widget, Disable Comments, Featured Images in RSS w/ Size and Position, Insert Headers and Footers, Instagram Feed, iThemes Sync, MailChimp for WordPress, MetaSlider, NextGEN Pro, Video Thumbnails, WordPress Video Gallery and Yoast SEO.
